Obituary

SHREWSBURY____Ruth S. (Sonia) Brighton, 88, of Shrewsbury formerly of Needham died Sunday Dec. 7 in the home of her daughter in Worcester.

Her husband of 63 years Joseph L Brighton died in 1996. Mrs. Brighton is survived by two sons, Paul Brighton of Benicia CA., and Francis R Brighton of Amherst N. H., two daughters Sr. Ruth Anne Brighton of The Sisters of Charity, of Halifax in New Hampshire and Joan C “Jacey” Brighton of Worcester. A sister Marie S Cole of Mattapoiset MA., seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was born in Arlington MA., a daughter of Louis and Catherine A (Farrell) Sonia and lived in Needham for fifty years before moving to Shrewsbury in 1998.

Mrs. Brighton was a graduate of Arlington High School, and attended Hyannis Teachers College, she was a graduate of Framingham State Teachers College. She was a first grade teacher for twenty two years for the Franklin School Department, and taught at St. Joseph’s School in Needham for three years.Mrs. Brighton was a member of St. Anne’s Parish in Shrewsbury, The Mass. Teachers Association and The National Educational Association.

The funeral will be held Friday December 12th from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 11 am in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 4 to 8 pm Thursday December 11th.Flowers may be sent or donations may be made in her memory, to a charity of the donor’s choice.
