VERO BEACH, FL/MARSTONS MILLS-Barbara F. (Olson) Girard, 68, of Vero Beach, FL and Marstons Mills, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 11th in her home after a courageous, yearlong battle with cancer. She leaves her husband of 51 years Charles L. Girard; her son, C. Jeffrey Girard and his wife Nancy of Marstons Mills; three daughters, Jamie M. Girard and her companion, Ed Buczak of Spencer, Jennifer A. Lahteine, with whom she lived and Jodi C. Greene and her husband Ricky of Worcester; her brother, Harold J. Olson, Jr. and his wife Susan of Auburn; four grandchildren, Nicole, Emily, Christopher and Emma; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mrs. Girard was born in Worcester, the daughter of Harold J. and Constance (Luperchio) Olson. She was a 1959 graduate of the former High School of Commerce. Mrs. Girard was a human resources manager at Macy’s on Cape Cod for 16 years and had also been a special needs teacher’s aide at the Mill Swan School in Worcester. She was a member of St. Helen’s Church in Vero Beach, was a Eucharistic minister there and provided religious education to special needs adults through the CARE program. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and was a very active member of the social club at her condominium complex in Vero Beach. She enjoyed spending time with her family, travelling, trips to the casino and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
The funeral is Friday, October 15th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday, October 14th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
