SLUDER - Ralph Lester Sluder, 69, of St. Mary’s , GA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, October 12, 2010 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born May 12, 1941 in McComas, WV. He passed away while vacationing with his Great Love, Ruth, in their Pennsylvania home, with which he had a great love and passion. He spent many years bringing his children and grandchildren there to share in one of his great pleasures in life. Coaching baseball was also his passion. He dedicated 17 years to the boys at Yulee Little League. He was always at the ball park. Many remember his annual trip with his team to the hunting camp. He was one of three coaches that built the Senior Boys field so they would have a place to play. He was an avid sportsman and was a founding member of Buck Fever Sportsman Club. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He was an adventurous man and loved traveling across the United States. He loved any activity where his family was involved. He was the ultimate family man. Ralph was a mechanic at Terminal Bag, retiring after 40 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Alger M. Sluder and Lillian Dunford Morrison, his sister, Kathleen Shrewbery and his daughter, Teresa L. Taylor. He leaves behind his wife, affectionately known as Doll, of 42 years, Ruth L. Sluder; his children, O’Vida Conley of St. Mary’s, GA, Rebecca Taylor of St. Mary’s, GA, Karen Abbott (Ralph) of Jacksonville, FL, Vince Taylor of Fernandina Beach, FL, Brenda Lang (Hank) of Texas, Ralph Sluder, Jr. (Lisa) of Callahan, FL, Susan Davis (Grady) of Fernandina Beach; his 20 grandchildren, Melissa, Shawn, Tommy, John, Kerri, Kimmy, David, Brandon, Josh, Hunter, Gage, Kayla, Brandy, Christine, Rachel, Nicholas, Amanda, Chip, Dewayne and Phillip; 17 adoring great grandchildren; five brothers, Larry Sluder (Jackie), Jimmy Sluder (Lillian), Earl Sluder, Gary Sluder (Melba), and Bobby Sluder (Baby); two sisters, Shelby Edge (Wally) and Lorraine Bradley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His wife and children wish to express their deep love and gratitude for a great life, well lived. A piece of each and every one of us will be missing, until we are reunited with him in Heaven. He was our Hero! Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Bishop Larry Osburn officiating. Interment will follow in the family burial estate in Green Pine Cemetery. There will be a reception at Living Waters Outreach Center immediately following the services. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
