West Bridgewater – Aldo Miele, 87, of West Bridgewater died Sunday October 10 at the Brockton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mildred C. (Lacey) Miele for 64 years.
Aldo was born in Verona, Italy and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. From 1942-1945, he served in the Navy’s airship squadron stationed in Weymouth, MA and Lakehurst, NJ.
He was a talented man and avid hobbyist who was a remarkable baker, stitcher, woodworker, photographer, and mechanic. As a member of Cape Cod Cloud Chasers, he was an expert airplane modeler. Aldo was also a member of the Polish White Eagles Club, the Conte Club, and a devoted scoutmaster of Troop 5 at St. Edwards Church. For most of his career, he was a heavy diesel mechanic for the Perkins Machinery Company and the Babcock Equipment Company. He will always be remembered for being part of the team the dismantled the diesel equipment on the Texas Tower 2, the off-shore radar facility that was located at Georges Shoal.
Aldo is survived by his wife Mildred and his four sons and their wives: Leonard and Stephanie Miele of Falmouth, John and Janet Miele of Plympton, Wayne and Nancy Miele of Coto de Caza, California, and Michael and Dina Miele of East Bridgewater. He also leaves two grandchildren, Michael and Brandon Miele of East Bridgewater and his brother George Miele of Toms River, New Jersey.
His visitation will be held Wednesday October 13 from 4-7 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel 666 Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held Thursday October 14 at 11 AM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Internment will follow in the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
