Obituary

BEVERLY: Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Whitehead) Dyke, 58, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 in the Brigham & Women’s Hospital following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of Edmund P. Dyke.
Born in Fall River on October 12, 1951, she was the daughter of Jeannine M. (Michaud) Whitehead of Venice, Florida and the late Charles F. Whitehead. Betty was a graduate of Stonehill College with a B.A. in Psychology and received her Master’s degree in English from Southern Illinois University. She has resided in Beverly since 1992.
Betty was employed as a career counselor at North Shore Community College for many years. She had also once worked as a guidance counselor at St. Joseph High School in Lowell. She was active in the Beverly Citywide P.T.O. and a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her loving daughter, Michelle M. Dyke of Beverly; three sisters, Kathleen and her husband, David McGuigan of Boxford, Nancy Patterson and her husband, Joseph Regina of Braintree and Patricia and her husband, Richard Hagerman of Middleboro; a niece, Sarah Patterson of Braintree; a sister-in-law, Susan and her husband Greg Funaro of Huntsville, AL and two brothers-in-law, James Dyke of Huntsville, AL and George Dyke of CA.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held today (Tuesday) in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Contribution Services, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7225.
