Huffert of Hopkinton, December 4, 2003, Elaine M. Huffert, 54 years. Beloved wife of Steven M. Florio. Devoted mother of Jennifer L. Florio. Sister of Robert Huffert of Darien, CT; Susan Springs of Golden, CO; and Anthony Huffert of Germantown, PA.

Visiting hours in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday 3-7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Donations in Elaine’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut Street #301, Brockton, MA 02301.

Obituary

Elaine Madeline Huffert passed away at the age of 54 on December 4, 2003 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Elaine was born on April 20, 1949 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, along with her twin brother Robert. Elaine grew up in College Point, Queens and later in Carle Place, Long Island. During her high school years, Elaine was a field hockey player and a cheerleader.

After graduating from high school, Elaine attended college at Sullivan County Community College and Lesley College, where she earned a B.S.Ed. with High Honors. After graduation, she took her first permanent job as a special needs teacher for elementary school students in the North Adams Public School system, where she taught for 14 years. She was a dedicated teacher who was much beloved by her students. Elaine also taught Adult Education and English at North Adams State College.

In 1984, Elaine earned an M.A. Degree in Educational Psychology from American International College, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.

In 1982, Elaine married Steven Florio of Brockton, MA, at Jiminy Peak Ski Resort. Elaine and Steve were joined by their beloved daughter Jennifer Lindsay Florio on February 24, 1988. The family moved to Hopkinton, MA in 1989, where Elaine spent her time as a devoted, loving mother, as an instructor at the Framingham YMCA, and as a teacher of Reevaluation Counseling.

In 1999, Elaine began to seriously pursue her longtime interest in art. She became a wonderful watercolorist and oil painter, and won several awards.

Elaine was a person of great integrity, bravery and strength who was a most warm, kind-hearted person. She will be greatly missed.
