Mary (Vignone) Lombardi, 99, of Franklin died October 10 in the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph Lombardi.
Born in Thompson, Connecticut, January 12, 1911, the daughter of the late Serafino and Margaret (Chiarizio) Vignone, Mrs. Lombardi had lived in Franklin since she was 5.
She was a 1929 graduate of Franklin High School and was Senior Class secretary. Her Class was the first class to begin the OSKEY program which continues to this day at Franklin High School.
Mrs. Lombardi along with her husband and brother–in-law Armando operated the Carousel Clothing store in Franklin for over 20 years.
She later worked as a legal secretary for Natalia Introini in Milford.
A woman of deep faith, she was a member of St. Mary’s Women’s Club and along with her late husband had sung in the Church choir for many years.
Mrs. Lombardi had been a volunteer in the School and Town Library.
She had been a member of the Emblem Club and enjoyed reading, cooking, cross word puzzles, knitting and being with her family.
She is survived by her children Carol Hogan and her husband Richard of Pembroke, New Hampshire, Mary Ellen Toscano and her husband John of Naples, Florida, and her son Paul Lombardi of Franklin. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Patricia Lombardi of Franklin and her brother Anthony Vignone of Franklin. She was the sister of the late Frank, Nicholas and Daniel Vignone and Josephine Guerra.
Mrs. Lombardi is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 14 from the Ginley funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
