Obituary

WASHINGTON…Marjorie M. “Marge” Smith, 86, of Washington, passed away at 6 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Washington Christian Village.

Marge was born on June 18, 1924 in Mansfield, Ohio to Felix and Hulda Imhoff Witschi. She married William “Bill” Smith in Washington on October 31, 1947. Bill survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dennis Smith of Columbia, SC and Gary (and Pam O’Brien) Smith of Washington; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Tony, Adam and Katie Smith and Brittany, Melissa and Aiden O’Brien and three great grandchildren, Grayson and Ensley Smith and Bella Wilson and many loving nieces and nephews. Marge was preceded in death by two sisters, Arlene Ward and Betty Blum.

Marge retired in 1997 from Sentimental Journey in Washington. Prior to that she had also worked at Town & Country, Clem’s Dress Shop and Paul’s Market (where Bill met Marge) on the Square in Washington.

She was in the first graduating class of the “new” Washington Community High School. In her spare time Marge loved to knit, cook-especially for family’s birthdays and play poker, teaching the kids young how to play. Marge loved to visit with friends and family, but really looked forward to the weekly lunches with her best friends. For many years Marge enjoyed bowling with her friends on a bowling league up on the Square.

Marge was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at Mason-White Funeral Home at 11:30 with Pastor John Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be at the funeral home two hours prior to services.

Memorials may be made to either Methodist Hospice or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
