Obituary

George Leslie Marrah, 95, Sacramento, California, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at in Sacramento. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Chapel Cemetery with full military honors. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born January 5, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts, son of Mary Mahan Marrah and George Andrew Marrah. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Frederick Anthony Marrah. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, the former Miss Carolyn Ross Harrison and his son, Richard Harrison Marrah. In 1943 he was sent from the Armored Force Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky to Camp Campbell (now Fort Campbell), Kentucky as Executive Officer of the cadre that organized the newly activated 782nd Tank Battalion. Later he served as Commanding Officer of the 782nd Tank Battaion. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel at age 31 due to critical injury received in France in 1945 when aboard a troop train that was bombed. He was educated at Boston University and the University of California at Los Angeles and was employed as a Security Analyst at the former Old Colony Trust Company in Boston. He retired as Professor Emeritus, School of Business, California State University, Sacramento, California.
