Charlton
As in life, Louis Jack Boucher is in the care of his Lord and Savior. He passed away early Tuesday morning, October 5, 2010 at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, Massachusetts where he resided. His loving wife Mary Lynn (Elsner) Boucher was beside him.
Louis was born May 24,1922 in Ashland, Wisconsin and was joined in marriage to Mary Lynn on November 5, 1949. He is survived by four children and their spouses: Lynn Ghassemzadeh (Mark), Ellen Petraglia (Mark), Carol Harwood (John) and John Boucher (Joan); Grandchildren: Sara Ghassemzadeh; Steven and Daniel Petraglia; Louis, Catherine and Charles Harwood; Emma Boucher; his brothers:H.James Sharp (Fond du lac, WI), Jerry Sharp (Duncanville,TX), Charles Sharp (Daphne,AL); a sister: Elaine Hayden (Owensboro,KY);special cousins: Don and Paul Chase, Jean Smart, Betty Hansen; Special Niece: Sally Mosher. He was predeceased by his parents: Louis N. Boucher and Clara Boucher-Sharp;and his brothers: John and Woodrow Sharp; and granddaughter: Sheila Ghassemzadeh.
He joined the Army in January 1942 and was discharged in December 1945 with the rank of First Sergeant. Part of this time he was with the Eighth Armored Division, European Theater. His decorations and citations include the Bronze Star.
Dr. Boucher was educated at Northland College, University of Wisconsin, and Marquette University School of Dentistry DDS(1953),PHD(1961). He had a Residency in Prosthetic Dentistry at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wood ,Wisconsin and a Residency in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the United States Naval Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Boucher had a vital career as a practicing dentist, dental educator and administrator. He joined the faculty at Marquette while balancing the responsibilities of a private practice. Later he became Director of Graduate Studies.
In 1965 he was called to the University of Kentucky School of Dentistry to become their Director of Graduate Studies and Research. In 1966 he became the Associate Dean for Biological Sciences at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. In 1971 he joined Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School in New Jersey as Dean. Later he became an Associate Dean of the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey(CMDNJ). In 1977 he went to the School of Dental Medicine State University of New York(SUNY) at Stony Brook. While at SUNY he served as Chairman of the Department of Restorative Dentistry as well as Associate Dean.
Dr. Boucher was active in organized dentistry. He served as President of seven national and international dental organizations. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
He served as consultant to the American Dental Association Council on Dental Education; the Veterans Administration; the United States Dental Corps.;the Surgeon General of the United States Air Force; and to various branches, bureaus and programs of the United States Public Health Service.
He published seven textbooks and over 90 articles pertaining to research, education and prosthodontics. He lectured extensively in the United States as well as in Canada and South America, receiving numerous honors and awards including the International Association for Dental Research Science Award in Prosthodontics.
Dr. Boucher was always active in his community and churches. He was a Sunday school teacher, an Elder, as well as Clerk of Session. He was a scout leader and volunteered his services in the community.
His many friends and relatives whether they call him Jack, Lou, or Dad will miss him.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10AM in the Chapel at the Overlook Masonic Home, 88 Masonic Home Rd.,in Charlton.
