Obituary

George M. Sawyer age 60, of Provincetown died in unexpectedly in September here in Provincetown. Born in Syracuse, NY on July 19, 1950, he was the son of the late Donald H. and Nita E. (Robb) Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was a veteran of the US Air Force. He enlisted in 1973 and served until 1987. He was stationed in New York, California and overseas in Pakistan. He held the rank of Tech Sergent and worked in Air Defense. For many years he was employed at Mitre Corporation as an engineering technician.

As a young man he would visit Provincetown with his family staying in the east end at their family home. He had lived in Provincetown year round since moving from Lawrence in 2001. George was a gentle, quiet man who was always available to help. Friends mentioned his willingness to fix broken or disabled electronic appliances. His many friends became his extended family.

He is survived by his 3 sons Nathan, Bryan and Alexander Sawyer and his daughter Karen Sawyer, his sister Toni G. Flanagan and her husband Bill of Littlerock, CA and his niece Gwynne of Silver Springs, MD.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately – McHoul Funeral Home in Provincetown on Sunday September 26 followed by a celebration of his life on Monday. Burial took place on Tuesday October 5, 2010 at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
