Richard A. McArdle, 66, of Londonderry, NH, died Wednesday October 6, 2010, in Saints Medical Center, Lowell, MA. Mr. McArdle was born in Miami, FL on June 20, 1944, son of the late Donald and Grace (Mills) McArdle. He had been a resident of Londonderry for over 30 years. Mr. McArdle grew up in Boston and Belmont, MA. While studying at Loyola University, his classes were held in Rome for one year. Destiny brought him together with Alice Hairabedian, who was studying art in Rome at the Academy of Fine Arts. They spent a wonderfully cultured year together exploring Rome and enjoying its art, music, museums and churches. Mr. McArdle returned to the United States to finish his last year of college at Boston University. In 1965 he journeyed to Jerusalem to propose to Alice and on September 23, 1965 they were married in the Old City of Jerusalem in the Latin Church of St. Saviour. He then brought his bride back to this beautiful country and together had a wonderful life and wonderful family. Mr. McArdle was a cultured, dignified and refined gentleman from the beginning of his life to the end.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years; Alice (Hairabedian) McArdle of Londonderry, two sons; Bruce McArdle and his wife Laura of N. Reading, MA, Robert McArdle of Lexington, KY, twin grandchildren; Jake and Jessica McArdle, a sister; Donna Carney and her husband Rick of Cape Cod, MA; a brother; Scott McArdle of Hudson, NH; two nieces; Elizabeth and Katherine; two nephews; Jared and Ian and a cousin; Diane DeFranzo of Massachusetts.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry, NH. The burial will be in the Pillsbury Cemetery, Hovey Rd., Londonderry.
