Mark B. Cross 76 of Provincetown died on Thursday September 30, 2010 at Seashore Point with his spouse Horace Stowman by his side. He was born in Springfield, Vt on February 27, 1934. He had lived in Provincetown for 36 years. Prior to Provincetown he had lived in Cambridge and Western Mass. In the late 1950s and early 60s he set up and managed the Music department of the Harvard Coop. He later opened two stores where he sold records, furniture and glassware in Amherst and North Hampton. He moved here in 1974 and met Horace Stowman. They were married on February 26, 2009. Not long after they met, they purchased the Ocean's Inn, a well known Provincetown restaurant and entertainment venue. They owned the Inn until 1995. During those years they were responsible for bringing countless entertainers to Provincetown. The club was a favorite of cabaret singers and comedians over the years. They started the Golden Gull Award, acknowledging the talents of entertainers and their contributions to the town of Provincetown. Community fund raisers were a common scene at the Ocean's Inn, raising money for the Rescue Squad, the fire department and the Provincetown AIDS support group. In addition to his loving husband and partner, Mark leaves his beloved little Pug, Cher and countless friends in Provincetown and throughout the Cape. He loved his life in Provincetown and will be missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, October 9, from 3:00 – 4:00pm at the Waterford Inn 386 Commercial St. Provincetown.
