Obituary

Jane (Mocker) Babiarz, 85, of Swansea passed away on Tuesday. She was the beloved wife for 65 years of the late Casimir “Cass” Babiarz and mother of the late Mary Louise Connolly. She is survived by daughters Cassandra Fitzgerald, of Tiverton and Ann Marie Pelletier, of Warren, their respective husbands Patrick and Dennis and son-in-law Edward Connolly. She also leaves sisters Thelma Kable and Bertha O’Hearne of Taunton and Helen Lecuyer of Raynham; grandchildren Julie and John Connolly, Patrick and Cass Fitzgerald and Jenna Pelletier; and great grandchildren Colin, Dylan and Ava Fitzgerald.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Eve Mocher, and sister of the late Joseph and Edward Mocker. Jane graduated from Taunton High School and studied at Syracuse University and Jagolonian University in Poland. She retired as Director of Public Relations and Development for Charlton Memorial Hospital. Earlier in her career she worked as Director of Public Relations for the Fall River Chamber of Commerce and as first assistant to former Congressman Joseph Martin.
Jane was active in the Polish-American community and, with her husband hosted, for many years, the Polish Hour a radio show on WSAR. During the Carter administration, they had the privilege of attending a White House reception in honor of their friend Pope John Paul II. She was also a communicant and former catechism teacher at St. Dominic’s Church in Swansea. Jane enjoyed cooking, travel, sewing, reading, pets and spending time with family.
There will be a Funeral Mass held in St. Dominic’s Church, Rte. 6, Swansea on Tuesday at 11:00 am. There are no visiting hours , burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
