Obituary

Margaret B. (Hannigan) Whalen age 96 died Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Lifecare Center in West Bridgewater. She was the wife of the late Edward H. Whalen and had been a resident of Brockton for many years. Margaret was born in Hull and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Ryan) Hannigan and was a graduate of Brockton High School. She retired in 1981 from Brockton City Hall after 26 years. She previously worked in the shoe industry at Douglas Shoe Factory and Knapp Shoe in Brockton and Commonwealth Shoe in Whitman.
Margaret worked for many years at the Brockton voting polls Ward 1C. She was a member and past treasurer of AARP, was a member of the Brockton Council on Aging and Ireland’s Own and was president of the resident council at the Lifecare Center of West Bridgewater. She enjoyed line dancing, helped run bingo at St. Margaret Church for over 20 years and ran the fried dough booth at church fairs.
Margaret was the mother of Raymond J. Whalen and his wife Pauline of Cape Coral, FL and the late Thomas Whalen. She leaves three grandchildren Bethany Couture, Michael Whalen and Jennifer Perez, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George and John “Joe” Hannigan and Patricia Barry.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 10:30 am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 11:30 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 pm. Donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the Resident Council at Life Care Center 765 W.
