Albert E. Brooks, 74 of Methuen, MA passed away suddenly on October 2, 2010. at Lawrence General Hospital He had courageously battled cancer for over 5 years. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves his wife of 51 years, Carol, his daughter Diane Brooks-Sherry and her husband Bill Sherry of Windham, NH, his daughter Deborah McNall and her husband Tom of Wakefield, MA and his daughter Donna Kelley and her husband Rick of Abington, MA. He also leaves six grandchildren; Michael Sherry, Ashley Haseltine, Kathryn McNall, Christopher McNall, Brenden Kelley, and Aiden Kelley.
Al was a lover of life, enjoying his free time fishing, skiing and camping. His most favorite times were spent with his family, friends, children and grandchildren cooking over a grill for large family gatherings. In his career, Albert was a master of many trades, working for many years as the Director of Facilities for Merrimack College and recently as a fleet manager for Brox Industries. In addition, he retired from the Massachusetts National Guard at the rank of Captain after 20 years of service. He was also a long time member of Shriners International.
Dealing with cancer, he never let the disease keep him from his grandchildren’s school activities or sporting events. He was also an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Salem, NH for the past 6 years.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday October 6 , 2010 from 4 to 8 pm at The Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. Funeral services will be on Thursday October 7 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA
