Rita (Goncalves) Machado, age 81 of Fall River, passed away October 1, 2010. Widow of David Sousa Machado, she was daughter of the late Francisco Goncalves Rei and Marie De Jesus Aguiar. Born in Sao Bras, she lived most of her life in Remedios da Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores. Rita was a homemaker who raised her grandchildren. She was a member of Christ the Rock Assembly of God and she was a resident of Fall River since 1977 becoming a U.S. Citizen at age 70.
She is survived by: 7 children: Fatima and husband Jose Viveiros, Ana and John Furnas all of Swansea, Grace and husband Manuel Cardoso, David and wife Mary Lou Machado, Margaret and husband Eduardo Rego, son-in-law Antonio Pereira all of Fall River, Rita and husband Luciano Leite of Dartmouth and Frank and wife Teresita Machado of Cranston. 17 grandchildren: George Cardoso, Anna Machado, Mandy Bettencourt, Peter and Gilly Pereira, Karen Ferreira, Kristopher, Matt, Daniel, Katherine Machado, Reuben and Nathan Furnas, Andrew, Bryan, Kristine Rego, Isabella and Mia Machado. 12 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews in Canada and Azores. She was mother of the late Rosaria Pereira and sister of the late Manuel Goncalves Rei, Maria R. Placido, Etelvina A. and Francisco A. Goncalves.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral service in Christ the Rock Assembly of God 10:00 A.M.
