SHANAHAN, Robert L. Sr. Formerly of Wellesley originally from South Boston, died Sept. 29 at his home in Needham at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Jo-Ann (Lydon) Shanahan for 50 years. Devoted father of Robert Shanahan and his wife Kai of Newton, Suzanne Shanahan and her husband Bill Tobin of Durham NC, Rachael McCarthy and her husband Todd of Newton. Cherished grandfather of Bobby and Mitchell Shanahan, Miranda, Willow and Ivy Tobin, Meghan, Sean, Marguerite, Kathryn, Shannon and Tom McCarthy.
Brother of Ray Shanahan of Norwood, Claire King of West Hartford CT and the late Gerald Shanahan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Shanahan who died unexpectedly was a retired school teacher in Norwood and Newton. He was an avid sailor who enjoyed travelling, cruising and spending time with family in Florida, the Cape and North Carolina.
