Leroy J. Darrow Sr., age 89, known affectionately by his friends at The Groton Regency Retirement Center as “chicken man”, passed away on Wednesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born in New London on June 3, 1921 the son of Earl J. and Annie F. Bloomfield Darrow. He retired from Electric Boat after 32 years.
His wife of 63 years, June Elizabeth Shafer Darrow passed on March 29, 2004.
Leroy is survived by his three sons, Leroy J. Darrow Jr. and wife Jeanne, Franklin Darrow, and Kim Alan Darrow and his wife Celia; a daughter, Sharon Morang and her husband Richard; 8 grandchildren; 18 Great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 10am-11:45am, followed by a service at 12noon. Burial will be in Poquetanuck Cemetery.
