Cheryl Ann Rivers, 64, of Rochester, NH, formerly of Derry, NH, died Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME. She was born in Manchester, NH on February 2, 1946, daughter of Florence (Burns) Grimard and the late John Platek. Mrs. Rivers grew up in Saxonville, MA. As a military wife, she and family lived all along the East Coast. During that time she raised five children. Upon retirement in 1991 she moved back to New Hampshire. Mrs. Rivers belonged to the F.O.E. and was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Women's Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo, work crossword puzzles, paint ceramics and watch the Red Sox and Patriots.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years; James P. Rivers of Rochester, NH, five children; Joe Hawkins of Gilmanton, NH, Paul Hawkins of Belmont, NH, William Hawkins of Menominee, WI, Lisa Frost of Laconia, NH and Steven Rivers of Rochester, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, her mother, Florence Grimard of Bellingham, MA, a brother; John Platek of Bellingham, MA, six sisters; MaryAnn Sikora of Northborough, MA, Linda Vienneau of Madison, NH, Dorothy Morin of Marlboro, MA, Beverly Craig of Bracey, VA, Brenda Platek of Rochester and Glenna Kingsbury of Auburn, NH as well as by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter; Gwenn S. Rivers in 1981 and by a sister, Frances Southers.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Funeral services will follow Thursday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Private burial services will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, Derry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles - Attn: Diabetes Research Center, 1623 Gateway Circle South, Grove City, Ohio 43123-9309.
