Obituary

Mrs. Melvin McCormick Gentry, age 92, of Providence, North Carolina, died Monday, September 27, 2010 in the Brian Center, Yanceyville, North Carolina.

Born July 7, 1918 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Charlie McCormick and Rosa Booth McCormick. Most of her life was spent in the Gatewood Community where she was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was married to William Thomas Gentry who predeceased her. Mrs. Gentry was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son: Jerry Gentry of Roanoke, VA; three daughters: Jeanne Pleasant of Raleigh, NC, Vikki Powell of Danville, Cathy Jablonski of Greensboro, NC; two brothers: Ray McCormick of Ringgold and Herbert McCormick of Columbus, Georgia; one sister: Betty Parsons of Danville; one son-in-law: Charlie Powell, and one daughter-in-law, Sherry Gentry; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, William T. Gentry, Jr. and (Infant) Charles I. Gentry, and by four brothers, Clyde McCormick, Cephus McCormick, Bruce McCormick, and Lacy McCormick.

Graveside services officiated by Dr. Donnie Anderson will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
