TEWKSBURY: Nancy (Carpenter) Sitar, age 74, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, passed away at home on Saturday, September 25, 2010, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of Michael W. Sitar, with whom she would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on October 9, 2010.
Born in Lexington on December 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William "Pete" Carpenter and the late Ethlyn "Ilene" (Cole) Carpenter.
Mrs. Sitar was raised in Lexington, attended Lexington schools and graduated from Lexington High School in 1953.
Nancy resided in Lexington and Somerville until moving to Tewksbury in January of 1959.
Mrs. Sitar was a communicant of St. Williams Church of Tewksbury and a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center.
According to her family, she enjoyed a passion for flower, vegetable and landscape gardening and spent numerous hours tending to her gardens.
In addition, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to Florida, Hawaii, Canada and the yearly foliage trips they took to New Hampshire.
Mrs. Sitar also volunteered her time by providing transportation assistance to the Poor Clare Sisters in Andover.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Tewksbury Fire Dept. Captain, Michael W. Sitar, Jr. and his wife Melanie of Tewksbury, Susan I. "Sue" Horgan and her husband Lawrence of Pelham, NH and Tewksbury Firefighter Daniel J. "Dan" Sitar and his wife Denise of Townsend; seven grandchildren, Michael W. Sitar, III and his wife Nicolle of Lawrence, James D. Sitar and his fiancee Nichole Ryan of Lowell, Christine M. Dumais and her husband Jason of Dorchester, Lauren E. and Jacquelyn J. Horgan both of Pelham, NH, Daniel J. Sitar, Jr. and Shannon I. Sitar both of Townsend; one great grandson, John R. "Jack" Meuse-Sitar of Lawrence; one brother, David "Butch" Carpenter and his wife Marianne of Lexington; one sister, Judith R. Hallisey and her husband Leonard of Tewksbury; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sitar was the sister of the late William "Billy" Carpenter, Jr. and Ethlyn Sampson.
Calling hours Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 4-8 p.m., (G.A.C. Service at 4:30 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 30, at9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
