Obituary

William P. “Jack” Gardella, 90, of Salem , NH , passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry , NH .



William was born in Haverhill , MA and has been a resident of Salem , NH for most of his life. He served with the United States Army during WWII. William worked for over 40 years within the shoe industry, beginning his career at Gerber Shoe Company and continuing on to work for many other factories in the area. He was most recently employed with the Salem School System as a custodian for many years prior to his retirement.



William was a member of St. Joseph ’s Church in Salem since 1968. During his free time he enjoyed watching Western movies, caring for his yard, he was an avid weather watcher and had a special love for dogs.



William is predeceased by his loving wife, Doris T. (Nolet) Gardella and brothers, Victor and Albert. He leaves his son, Steven Gardella and his friend Harry Bain, both of Sandown , NH , a sister, Rita Roche of Ridgefield , CT , a granddaughter, Melissa J. Bernard of Lowell , MA and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Gardella wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at both the Salem Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and Parkland Medical Center for their kindness and care during this difficult time.



Friends are invited to call from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28th at the Goundrey and Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street , Salem , NH . A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph ’s Church, Salem . Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery , Salem . Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League, Attn: Ray Denis, 4 SARL Drive , Salem , NH , 03079 .
