Obituary

WORCESTER – Mr. John F. “Cap” “Cappy” Capite Sr. passed away Thursday September 23rd after a short illness.

He leaves his loving wife of fifty-six years, Joanne(Orsi) Capite of Worcester; two sons, John Capite Jr. and his wife Rachel of Cottonwood, AZ.; Joseph Capite and his wife Mary of Rutland, Ma.; two daughters, Janet Carlson of Worcester, and Jill Pietrzak and her husband Paul of Gilbert, AZ.; a brother, Vito Capite and his wife Ruth of Leicester, Ma.; a brother in law, Arthur Orsi of Worcester; fifteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

John was pre-deceased by his brothers, Joseph, Lawrence, William, Anthony, and a sister, Mary Ricciardi.

He was born, February 5, 1919 in Worcester, Massachusetts a son of the late Matteo and Jeoneffa(Sorvillo) Capite.

John enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 6, 1941. He served in World War II in the 21st Regiment 24th Division as a Corporal radio Signal core man. He was stationed at Scofield barracks in Hawaii the day the Japanese invaded Pearl Harbor. He then served in the Philippines, Haiti, New Guinea, and Australia. He received the Pearl Harbor commemorative medal.

Honorably discharged on September 24, 1945 he returned to Worcester and became the owner of Capite Bros. Tile Company. He was a Fire Alarm maintenance lineman for the City of Worcester, then Chief Fire Alarm Dispatcher retiring in 1986 after twenty-five years of service. He then worked at Wachusett Mt. Ski Lodge for twenty years better well known as “The Candy Man”. John was an avid golfer and bowler.

John was proud to serve his country but always said “Don’t call me a hero, the hero’s are the ones that never came back.” The family would like to thank the staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation for their exceptional support to the family and their outstanding warmth and genuine care for John.
