J.N. Raymond Gallant, 90, of Westport died peacefully, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was husband of Alice (Pereira) Gallant, they would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on October 12.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Joseph N. and Alice (Bellavance) Gallant, he had lived in Westport since 1961. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Sharon, MA. A patriotic man, he was a veteran of WWII, serving his country in the United States Navy. Prior to retirement in 1986, he had worked for the former Harvey Prober of Fall River and the former Wuersch Associates of Fall River. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. Mr. Gallant enjoyed bird watching, woodworking and reading, but most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: Stephen J. Gallant of Westport; 3 daughters: Barbara A. Fontaine of Ocala, FL, Patricia Gallant Cook and her husband Joseph of E. Boothbay, ME and Lisa Gallant-Stanzione and her husband Timothy of Bristol, RI; 4 grandchildren: P.J. Fontaine, Kyle D. Remy, Joshua J. Cook and Alison M. Cook; 2 great grandchildren: Desiree Fontaine and Hunter Fontaine; 2 great great grandchildren: Jayden Spoffard and Jasmine Spoffard; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Pauline O’Neil, Robert Gallant and Jean Gallant.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday September 27, 2010 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 4 – 7 P.M.
Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
