James Otha Shelton, 94, of 976 Fairview Road, Chatham, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County on February 29, 1916, he was the son of the late Ballard Shelton and Julie Hutcherson Shelton. He was
married to Blanche Matherly Shelton who predeceased him on October 9, 2007. He attended Samuel Harris Baptist Church in Chatham,
and had worked as a machine operator for Tune-Toler, Inc. He was an avid dancer and was very active.
Mr. Shelton is survived by one daughter, Evelyn "Polly" Shelton Lester and her husband, Clayton, of Danville; one brother, Kessler
Shelton and his wife Ruby of Richmond, two grandchildren, Lisa Ann Woodson and Mark Alan Woodson.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one son, Samuel Edward Shelton, four brothers, Marion Shelton, Nelson Shelton, and Russell Shelton, Wesley Thomas “W. T.” Shelton, and four sisters, Virginia Wyatt, Rena Quinn, Flossie Pugh and Edith Shelton.
Funeral services for Mr. Shelton will be held Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Curtis Faison and the Rev. Allen Holder officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends
Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times will be at the residence,
976 Fairview Road, Chatham.
