Oneita Weaver Carter, 87, of Tifton died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the Sanctuary of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow at Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery in Colquitt County. Gary Vowell, Stacy Duckworth, Mark Sandifer, Austin Scott, O'Neal Bozeman and Robert Harbin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Frank Raley Coed Sunday school class of Tifton's First Baptist Church and Tift County Retired Educators. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 24, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
Mrs. Carter was born on May 15, 1923 in Colquitt County and was the daughter of Joe B. Weaver and Martha Norman Weaver, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Carter, who died in 1985; one daughter; and two brothers, Ralph Weaver and Derrell Weaver. She was a retired school teacher and taught 5th grade for over 50 years. She was a member of the Tift County Retired Teacher’s Association and the Georgia Retired Educators. She taught adult education at Moultrie Technical College after her retirement. She was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Frank Raley Coed Sunday School class.
Mrs. Carter is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Tommy Johnson of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Pam Carter of Albany; one granddaughter, Abbey Carter of Albany; and two brothers, Lamar Weaver and James Weaver, both of Norman Park.
