Roger Lee Porterfield, 50, of 617 Farmers Road, Gretna, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in Danville on April 6, 1960, he was the son of the late Clarence Porterfield and Hazel R. Porterfield. He was married to
Jennifer Davis Porterfield, who survives him of the home. He was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church
and had worked as a technician at Gramm Packaging in Altavista. He lived his early life in Danville and had lived in Gretna for
the past 19 years.
In addition to his wife, Jennifer, he is survived by one son Aaron Porterfield and two daughters, Carla Porterfield and Emma
Porterfield, all of the residence. Other survivors include two brothers, Charles Porterfield of Danville and Harold Porterfield of
Turkey, and his mother-in-law, Agnes Davis, of Danville.
Funeral services for Mr. Porterfield will be held at Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday,
September 24, 2010 with the Rev. Freddie Vicks and the Rev. R. G. Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in Greenfield
Cemetery in Gretna, VA. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at
Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church and at other times will be at the home of Agnes Davis, 611 Westview Drive.
The family requests memorial donations to be made to the Porterfield Children's Scholarship Fund, 617 Farmers Road,
Gretna, VA, 24557.
