Bruce H. "White Bear' Lamprey, 87, of 338 Stafford St., passed away peacefully, Monday, September 20, 2010 at The Meadows Rehab. and Nursing Center in Leicester, where he was a resident since 2007.
His loving wife, Johanna F. "Annie' (Andriessen) Lamprey passed away in 1985.
Bruce leaves behind 4 daughters, Mary wife of Cal Rupert, Gerri Granville, and Annette wife of Dan Crowley, all of Charlton, and Tina Lamprey of Spencer, one brother, Robert Lamprey and his wife Doris, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many close and long time friends.
He was born in Worcester, son of George and Maud (Wakeman) Lamprey and lived here all his life.
He proudly served in the Army in WWII in the European Theater under Gen. George S. Patton.
Bruce worked at Norton Co. in Worcester for many years until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of American Legion Post # 391.
Bruce received the Charlton "Citizen of the Year" award and even wrote the current wording for the reward for future recipients.
Because of his white hair and beard and sparkling blue eyes, he played Santa Claus at Christmas parties for many years.
Bruce and Annie sponsored 68 foster children.
He also had the distinction of being an honorary male member fo the Helping Hand Society.
He loved working on outdoor projects. No job was too large to tackle and he would not rest until it was completed. Bruce also loved animals of all kinds.
He was an avid history buff with special interest in the Town of Charlton history and politics and Native American history.
He worked tirelessly to preserve and protect many historical buildings and artifacts in Charlton and Worcester County.
Bruce possessed a quick wit and a compassionate heart to all he met.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
Bruce's Funeral will be Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10 AM in the Robert J. Miller - Charlton Funeral Home, 175 Old Worcester Rd. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Northside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 4 to 7 PM at the Funeral Home.
