Obituary

Joan M. (Barrett) Crowley, 81, of Marshfield, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Life Care Center of the South Shore.
Joan was married to the late James F. Crowley Jr. Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, daughter of the late Theresa and Edmund Foley, Joan graduated in 1947 from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. In 1954, she married and moved to the South Shore. In 1976, she and her family started Airport Sub and Pizza in Marshfield, where she worked until it was sold in 2001. Joan spent the last several years of her working life surprising customers by delivering pizzas in snowstorms and taking out an occasional mailbox. Joan was known as Mrs. C by many of her friends in the community. She could be found most mornings at Leos Bakery where she socialized, read the Boston Herald and scratched about a million lottery tickets. Joan was an excellent listener, warm-hearted and nonjudgmental with a great sense of humor and a ready laugh.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Crowley of Waldoboro, Maine, and Patricia M. Crowley; son, James F. Crowley III; and grandson, Michael J. Crowley, all of Marshfield; sister, Rita Stewart of Halifax; brother, Gerard Lamond of Jamaica Plain; brother-in-law, Edward Russ Ruszala of Bliss, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ellen (Foley) Ruszala of Bliss, N.Y., and brother, Jackie Lamond of Wrentham.
Viewing is at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield, Wednesday, Sept. 22, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m.
