..founded Veteran's Community Care Home; 74
TEWKSBURY - Margaret M. (Dolan) Curran, L.P.N., age 74, the operator of a community based Veteran's psychiatric care home, died Monday afternoon, September 20, at the Lowell General Hospital, following a courageous eleven month battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Paul C. Curran, with whom she had celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary this past August 25th.
She was born in Dorchester, December 6, 1935, a daughter of the late Joseph and Delia (Herlihy) Dolan, but had lived in Tewksbury for the past four decades. She graduated from Massachusetts Bay Community College and earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed by Mt. Auburn and Beth Israel Hospitals, and several Boston area nursing homes before founding Veteran's Community Care Home in Tewksbury.
She was an active member of St. William's Parish in Tewksbury, and financially sponsored the education of a priest through Seminary in India. He was Ordained as a Priest this past January.
She was a member of and coral vocalist for the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, and had appeared in many of their Boston Symphony Hall productions.
Besides her husband, Paul, she is survived by a brother, Joseph Dolan and his wife Neula of Milton; four sisters, Ann Spillane and her husband Edward of Brockton, Frances Cotter and her husband William, and Catherine Kerr all of Braintree, and Julie Creel and her husband Dr. Stephen Creel of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late Mary (Dolan) Kelleher.
Her funeral was Friday at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Interment followed at Westlawn II Cemetery in Lowell. Memorials to the Lowell General Hospital, Cancer Center, Attn: Development Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 will be appreciated.
