Gilford-----Dorothy Anna Mastine, 99, of 1099 Cherry Valley Road, died at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, Boscawen on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Mrs. Mastine was the widow of Paul S. Mastine who died in 1963.
Mrs. Mastine was born April 13, 1911 in Wilmington, Mass., the daughter of Almon and Anna (Wells) Thompson. She moved to Gilmanton, N.H. where she attended school. She later resided in Alton and Laconia before settling in Gilford in 1948. She worked at the Barberry Mills in Lakeport and from 1930 to 1948, she and her husband owned the Paugus Bay Cabins on Weirs Boulevard (now the site of the Margate). She was the Town of Gilford’s oldest resident and was presented the Town’s Boston Post Cane in 2010.
Mrs. Mastine was a member of the Weirs United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pythian Sisters. Her hobbies included crocheting, nature, feeding birds and helping others.
Survivors include a son, Stuart A. Mastine, of Colorado Springs, CO., a daughter, Virginia A. McConnell, of Burke, VA; seven grandchildren, Sandra Haungs, James McConnell, Kathleen McConnell, Patricia Willingham, Brigitta Edwards, Carey Mastine and Sonya Pilant; 8 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Mastine was predeceased by a son, Sterling H. Mastine.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Weirs United Methodist Church and burial will be in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery at 1:00PM.
