Ronald D. Hedin, 72, of Whitman, died Sunday September 19th, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Carol (McPate) Hedin.
He was born and brought up in Brockton son of the late Roy and Margaret (Dexter) Hedin.
Ron has been a resident of Whitman for most of his life and attended Whitman Schools.
He worked for Deehan’s Express as a truck driver for 27 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 653.After his retirement he was very well known and liked as a employee at Regal Food Mart in Whitman for over 5 years.
He was also a coach and instructor for the Abington Youth Hockey for many years.
Ron served in the National Guard.
In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his son, Thomas F. Hedin and his wife Mary of Milton, his grandchildren, Thomas, Paul and Rose Hedin, Victoria, Alexandra and Elizabeth Harbester; also many nieces and nephews
He was also the father of the late Deborah (Archibald) Harbester and the brother of the late Norma Smith.
His services will be held on Thursday September 23rd at 11:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 12:00PM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Wednesday September 22nd from 4:00-8:00PM.
