Obituary

Mrs. Imelda K. “Mel” (Lemieux) Dorsey, of Holmen, Wisconsin and formerly of Taunton, Ma., passed away peacefully Thursday, September 16, with her husband at her side. She married George W. Dorsey, eldest son of John E. and Blanche G. (Gagnon) Dorsey, on June 19, 1948 in Taunton. They shared 62 wonderful years together as the love of each others lives.
She was born on November 25, 1926 in Taunton, the daughter of the late George E. and Blanche M. (Champagne) Lemieux. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School. Taunton residents for most of their lives, Imelda and George moved to Holmen, Wisc. to be closer to their son and granddaughters, but continued to keep in touch with and were interested in the happenings in their community of Taunton.
Imelda loved her family and friends and was willing to help in any way possible. In addition, she enjoyed, and was very involved in local organizations for the benefit of her community. Whether it be working politically as Registrar of Voters Chairwoman or as Chairwoman for the Christmas Parade. Watching the marching bands was of great enjoyment being that she was a former majorette.
Imelda and George were communicants of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She enjoyed visiting with the Deacon Matthew Ludick and Sister Bridget. She made many friends in their neighborhood, visiting with anyone that came past the house. She continued to entertain in her Holmen home, just as she did in East Taunton, whenever possible.
Imelda is survived by her devoted husband George, of Holmen, Wisc., her son Brian M. and his wife Cathy (Puent) Dorsey, four granddaughters, Sarah A. Dorsey of Westfield, N.j., Rebekah I. Dorsey of Los Angeles, Cal., Megan E. Dorsey and Marissa B. Dorsey both of La Crosse, Wisc., three sisters, Adrienne Lemieux of Taunton, Claire Lopes of Berkley and Elaine McSheffrey of Brockton, a sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Soucy of St. Augustine, Fla., a brother-in-law, James and Brenda (White) Dorsey of Taunton, eight nephews, sixteen nieces and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers-in-law, James McSheffrey, L. Paul Soucy and D. Eugene Dorsey, and a nephew, Kevin Dorsey.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, on Friday, September 24 at 9:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in Holy Family Church, East Taunton, at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Imelda Dorsey Scholarship Fund, c/o Coyle-Cassidy High School, Taunton, Ma., 02780, or to the Holmen Wisc. Lions Club.
The family would like to thank the staff from Gunderson Lutheran Hospice Care, Deacon Matthew Ludick and Sr. Bridget. A special thanks to John and Leanne Stokes for their care and support of George, Mel, and our family. .
