Leo D. Giovanangelo, of Arlington, died at home Friday in the company of his loving family. He was 89.
Leo was born in Italy, the son of the late Giuseppe and the late Raffaela (Meschino) Giovanangelo. Raised in Medford, Leo joined the Army Air Corps during World War Two and served in the Pacific and participated in the liberation of the Philippines. After the war he returned home and attended Northeastern University, earning his electrical engineering degree and did further studies at MIT. He worked as an electrical engineer at Allis-Chalmers before its acquisition by Siemens. Leo was devoted to his family and enjoyed happy times in Meredith, NH at the family home on lake Winnipesaukee. There he taught his children to enjoy the out doors whether it be on the water or local ski slopes.
He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanora (Cataldo). He was a devoted father to Joseph Giovanangelo of Ft. Lauderdale, Leo J. Giovanangelo and his wife Christine of Worcester, Ronald Giovanangelo of Arlington and his companion Nancy Webb of Chester, NH, Leonora Giovanangelo of Arlington. He was a loving grandfather to Cristina, Anthony, Sara, Joseph and loving great-grandfather of Cristianna Mariah. He also leaves a dear family friend Corrine Wiitala.
His Funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday September 23rd at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
