AUBURN-Felix J. “Phil” Baris, 88, of Auburn, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 18th after a short illness. His wife, Barbara I. (Roberts) Baris, died in 1982. He leaves a daughter, Deborah J. Huckins and her husband Loran of Auburn; a sister, Josephine Chiras of Worcester; three grandsons, Jason L. Huckins of Raleigh, NC, Christopher J. Huckins and Adam W. Huckins, both of Worcester; three great grandchildren, Noemi, C.J., and Sofia Huckins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susanne I. Baris, in 1998, and his sister, Anna Vangel.
He was born in Worcester, the son of John and Suzanna (Cantor) Baris and lived in Auburn most of his life. Mr. Baris was a 50 year member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 107, working with various local companies on construction projects in and around the Worcester area. In his spare time, he was an avid gardener and loved to laugh and dance. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, Phil served two tours of duty, first with the 5th Armored Division in the European Theatre and then as a Sergeant with the 14th Infantry in Japan.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 21st in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will be private. Calling hours are from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 20th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
