Olivia M. Luiz, 85, of Dartmouth died Friday September 17, 2010 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Guilherme M. and Maria (Maciel) Luiz, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth.
Miss Luiz was formerly employed at St. Luke's Hospital for many years as the head nurse in the special care nursery.
She was a member of the St. Luke's Nursing School Alumnae and was proud of her affiliation with the organization and colleagues. Olivia was an animal lover who was very dedicated to her pets.
Survivors include her sisters, Leonor M. Luiz of Dartmouth and Bessie Plouffe of Cranston, RI; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the sister of the late Beatriz L. Lopes, Isabel Quadros-Smith, Gregorio M. Luiz, Mary T. Luiz, and Laura deFreitas.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
