Anthony J. Di Natale age 94 of Hyannis, formerly of Arlington passed away at his daughter’s home surrounded by his loving family September 16th. Born in S. Boston, he was raised in Belmont where he was a star athlete playing football, hockey and track and was later inducted into the Belmont High School Hall of Fame. He then went on to play football at Boston College where he was a three year starter at quarterback and the team captain during his senior year. It was noted in the September 11 1992 Conte Forum “Tony DiNatale may well have been the greatest Boston College quarterback ever, back in that earlier age of football, He could punt with the best of them.” “Long and Low was his credo.” He also played hockey, track and golf during his time at Boston College and he was inducted into the Boston College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. After graduating from Boston College Tony went on to play in various football All Star Games and was later signed by the Professional Boston Shamrocks Team. In 1940, Tony began his career as a probation Officer at the Cambridge District Court before being called to serve in the United States Army during WW II. After his service to the Army, he returned to work at the Cambridge Court (3rd District Court of Middlesex County) where he worked until he retired as the Chief probation Officer in 1983. He was a former member and Chairman of the Arlington Department of Youth Services, a longtime member of the Arlington Touchdown Club and was the backfield coach of Rindge Technical High School in 1947. He was an avid golfer and in 1988 he was Club Champion of Cummaquid Golf Club. Beloved husband of Pauline L. (Salvi). Father of Louise Givens & her husband Dr. James of S.C., David Di Natale & his wife Denise of N. Weymouth and Ann Marie O’Brien & her husband Mark of Canton. Brother of Vincent Di Natale of Marshfield,Tina Clifford of Arlington & the late Salvatore Di Natale & Phyllis Lima. Grandfather Dean Givens & his wife Courtenay of S.C., Stephanie Givens of S.C., Nicholas & Victoria Di Natale of N. Weymouth, Margaret Brown & her husband Bruce of Andover, Toni Marie & Catherine O’Brien of Canton. Also survived by a great granddaughter Hayden Givens of S.C. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Church 347 South St. Hyannis Monday morning at 10.
