Joe I. Powell, 82, of Germantown Hills passed away on Sept 12, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke where he received kind and compassionate care at the end of his life.
He was born in Bloomington, IL on Dec 9, 1928 to Ira and Lida (Rock) Powell. They preceded him in death, as did his son Todd Powell.
He was a father to his daughter Lisa of Germantown Hills and his son Steven of Washington, and a grandfather to Zachary and Jesse Powell of Washington.
Joe grew up in the Secor area attending school in El Paso and then served in the US Army. After his discharge from the service he engaged in farming, and worked in the insurance and building industries. His passion in his younger days was learning to fly small aircraft and more recently took pleasure with a good cup of coffee while enjoying the company of friends. He also enjoyed attending Highview Christian Church.
Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside services will be held at Secor Cemetery Rt 24 Secor, IL at 3:00pm Saturday Sept 18th with the Rev. Ken Hogren officiating. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke; PO Box 530 Roanoke, IL 61561.
