Mr. George R. “Rusty” Bruce, of Taunton, died Sunday, on the 12th of September. He could not win the race, but crossed the finish line in his battle with cancer. Rusty’s life was cut short from living the life of his dreams – having a family, good friends, riding his custom motorcycle and earning a decent pay from doing a job he could be proud of. Rusty was American by birth, born 40 years ago in Whitney, Texas, and was union by choice. He was a proud member of Boston’s Local 7 Ironworkers Union.
Rusty was the soul mate of his wife of 18 years, Deborah “Lil Deb” (Bird) Bruce, and the proud father of Harley Bruce of Taunton. He was the son of his dedicated parents, Guy R. Bruce and Barbara (Elmes) Bruce of McAlester, Oklahoma. Rusty leaves his mother-in-law, Doris (Dufresne) Bird, a sister-in-law, Christine Galhardo and her husband, Paul of Freetown, a brother-in-law, David Bird and his companion, Diane of Taunton, two nieces, Saige and Ivy Galhardo of Freetown, a cousin, Gigi Elmes of Philadelphia, Pa., several aunts, uncles, cousins in his beloved extended family in Bethel, Vermont.
There will be a Celebration of Rusty's life at the Italian Naturalization Club, 46 Wales Street, on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Close friends and family are invited to attend a funeral bike procession, preceded by a charity shirt sale at 11:30 A.M. Additional shirts may be purchased by leaving you contact information and shirt preference at [email protected]. All orders must be in by October 10, 2010. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to his daughter, Harley Bruce, c/o P.O. Box 55, Raynham Center, Ma., 02768. .
