Spillane of Brockton, November 27, 2003, Cornelius A. Spillane. Husband of Mary E. (Costigan) Spillane. Father of John D. Spillane of Brockton, grandfather of Hannah Spillane of Brockton and brother of Ruth LaPointe of Westbrook, Maine.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church at 9 am. Burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Easton. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Cornelius memory may be made to the Easton Huskey’s Baseball Fund

Obituary

Mr. Spillane died Thursday morning at his home after a period of failing health. Born in North Easton, son of the late Maurice J. and Catherine (Daily) Spillane, he was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, class of 1930, and participated in all varsity sports. He also played semi professional football, basketball and baseball with the Easton Huskies, and continued to coach the team after his playing days. He retired from Foot Joy after 28 years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy.

He served on the Brockton Park Commission for 30 years and had also been its Chairman at one time. He was inducted into the Massachusetts High School Baseball Hall of Fame, United States Baseball Federate Hall of Fame, and Cranberry League Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. (Costigan) Spillane, one son John D. Spillane of Brockton, one granddaughter Hannah Spillane of Brockton, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and one sister Ruth LaPointe of Westbrook Maine.

He was the brother of the late Frank, John, Frederick, Maurice, Daniel and Clement Spillane, Mary Kent, Ellen Lawson, Kathleen Coyle, Julia Kennedy, Bernice Quinn, and Rita Sewell.
