Harold and Sue Pittman, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 9th, 2010, in a single car accident near Savannah, GA.
Harold was born September 4, 1939 and was the son of the late William Bert and Jessie Pittman. Sue was born August 31, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Georgie Wallace. Both graduated from Clarksville High School, class of 1957. Sue earned a teaching degree from Austin Peay University, in Tennessee, and a masters degree from WV College of Graduate Studies.
Harold and Sue moved to Charleston, WV, in 1980 to start the TOM’S peanut & potato chip franchise, which would become Pittman Snax Sales, Inc. Sue was a business teacher for over thirty years and retired from Riverside High School.
Harold and Sue were members of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Sissonville. Harold was a member of the Shriners, CHAMR, NFIB, WV Wholesalers, and the Sissonville Lions Club. Harold was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as service member for the White House Conference on Small Businesses.
Harold and Sue shared their time between their home in Charleston and retirement home in Murrells Inlet, SC. They shared 52 years of marriage on September 1. Harold loved fishing and golfing, and had most recently played the St. Andrews course in Scotland with his son Eddie. Sue enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and shopping with her granddaughters.
Harold and Sue are survived by one son, Eddie Pittman, and his wife, Melody Pittman. They were preceded in death by their daughter Lanita Sue Pittman, who passed away in October 2009. They leave behind two granddaughters, Taylor and Peyton Pittman. Their dog, Mitzi, who was spared in the accident, will be residing with the grandchildren. Harold is survived by sisters Barbara Clinard, of TN, and Sarah Brokofsky, of KY. Their service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday September 14th at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Louder officiating. Friends will be received from 2-4 pm. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Kanawha/Charleston Human Association or the Aldersgate United Methodist Memorial Fund.
