St. PETERSBURG, FL: Agnes ( Elwell) Mahan, 84, formerly of 135 East Main Street, passed away peacefully August 24, 2010 at home with her son and daughter-in-law at her bedside following a two year battle with Alzheimer's. She was the wife of the late Albert Mahan.
Born in Gloucester on April 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Dora (Arnold) Elwell. Like most of her family, she worked along the Gloucester waterfront in many of the fish processing plants, having worked for over 20 years for Captain Joe and Sons.
Aggie, to all of those who knew her well, was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, who loved to sing, dance, and play cards. She was an expert at the daily crypto quote and most of the time could solve them in minutes. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nephew, Scotty MacFarland, and she loved her Saturday morning grocery shopping with her niece, Karen Cunha, who was truly the daughter Aggie never had.
She is survived by her sons, Carl Jensen and his wife Patricia, Wayne Jensen and his wife Dona; granddaughters, Dawn Smith and her husband, Scott, and Sherri Mendrala and her husband, Chris, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Betty White, Dora Jensen, Faye MacFarland and Grace Cote; two brothers, Albert and Warren Elwell and nieces, Cathy Cabral and Linda Magnarelli.
Her funeral service will be held next Saturday, September 18th in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 – 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
