Gazelle Newton Cox, 88, of 104 Westmore Drive, died Wednesday, September 08, 2010, at her residence. She had been in declining health for several years. Born May 1, 1922, in Rockingham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Oscar Newton and Myrtle Cook Newton. She was married to John Taylor Cox who predeceased her.
Mrs. Cox had lived most of her life in the Ruffin, NC and Danville area. She retired in 1971 as a technician in the operating room of Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by a daughter Jessie Cox Meadows and husband Kenneth of the residence; a son Joel Hayden Cox and wife Cecilia; a brother Raymond Newton of Chatham and a sister, Frances B. Thompson of Eden, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, four brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010, at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will be located at the residence, 104 Westmore Drive.
