Obituary

Leonard J. Ronan, Jr. of Walnut, California, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his home. Born in Andover, Massachusetts, on July 17, 1932 to Leonard J. Ronan and Mary (Carroll) Ronan. Len attended St. Augustine's Elementary School in Andover, Massachusetts and Central Catholic School in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Bentley school of Accounting and Finance, Waltham, MA. Len met his wife, Mary Lou in high school and they married on May 16, 1953 at St. Patrick's Church in Lawrence, MA. Len and Mary Lou had 45 wonderful years together living in various locations, before her death on November 22, 1998. Len held responsibile positions with major companies in the fresh foods industry including; Chief Accounting Officer, Los Angeles Salad Company; Consultant, River Ranch Los Angeles; Vice President of Finance, G&G Produce; Vice President of Finance. Acapulco Restaurants, Inc.; and twenty-one years with the United Fruit Company, Chiquita Banana Company, serving in many areas including five years in Columbia, South America and six years as Vice President of Finance, Inter Harvest, Salinas, California. Len was passionate about his career and a mentor to many. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan, following the Boston teams. He will be missed by his family and friends, A caring father, brother, grandfather and partner, we were all honored to have him in our lives. Len leaves his three children, Barbara Ronan of Essex Junction, Vermont; Michael Ronan and his wife Julie Broadlands, Virginia; and Robert Ronan of Walnut, California. He also leaves two granddaughters, Hannah and Caitlin; two sisters Mary Ellen (Ronan) Roberts and her husband Leo Roberts; and Carol (Ronan) Lange and husband Walter Lange. He also leaves the light of his later life, Patricia Hodson, his companion and best friend in the last two years of his life. They enjoyed their time together, especially the evening walks, music, dancing and traveling. In Los Angeles, there were calling hours on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Draper Funeral Home, 860 North Mountain View Avenue, Ontario, CA 5-8PM and a celebration Mass at St. Anthony's Church, 2110 North San Antonio Avenue, Upland, CA at 12PM on Friday, September 10, 2010. In Massachusetts, there were calling hours on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 Main Street, Andover, from 3-7PM. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA at 10AM on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.
