Obituary

Dwight "Whitey" Severino, 89, of New Bedford, died September 8, 2010 at Royal Taber Street Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the loving husband of Edna M. (Lynman) Severino. Whitey and Edna would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversity on September 12th.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel Severino and Blanche (LaRose) Dutra, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Severino was formerly employed as a general foreman at Cornell-Dublier, past owner of Mike's Restaurant and was employed by Reservation Golf Club for 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Whitey was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf in his earlier days. He was an honorary member of the Reservation Golf Club.
The family would like to thank the management and members of the Reservation Golf Club for the many kindnesses bestowed on Whitey during his tenure at the golf club and to thank the Taber Street Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Whitey by the staff.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Desmond of East Bridgewater and her children, Shawn Desmond and his wife Rebecca, Heather O'Neill and her husband Kevin, all of Rockland, and Lindsey Desmond of Brockton; his wife, Edna M. (Lynman) Severino and her children, Jean Brown and her husband Rick of North Dartmouth and their children Kimberly Brown of New Bedford and Rick Brown and his wife Molly of Charlotte, NC, and Joyce Sopel and her children Jeffrey Sopel and his wife Leigh, Michael Sopel and his wife Milu and Jennifer Sopel, all of Charlotte, NC; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours Sunday, September 12th from 5-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 13th at 10 AM at Grace Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Veteran's Transition House, 20 Willis Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
