John T. “Jake” Cox, Sr., 83, of Bloomingdale, Georgia died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Hospice House in Savannah.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, September 11, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla. Interment will follow in Pinetta Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Cox was born April 3, 1927 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Jack and Pearlie Taylor Cox. He grew up in Irwin County and was a former resident of Tifton and Columbia County. Mr. Cox was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police, retiring after 22 years and serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement from the U.S. Army he worked in law enforcement for 20 years on the University Hospital Police Department in Augusta.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife: Marion H. Cox of Bloomingdale; daughter: Brenda J. Cox of Bloomingdale; son and daughter-in-law: John T. Cox, Jr., & Esta of Augusta; 4 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry & Hazel Cox of Deming, NM, Herman Cox of Tifton and Cecil & Nora Cox of Fitzgerald; sisters and brothers-in-law: Cora Bracewell, Dora & James Coburn, Clara & Lamar Pate and Vernell Roberts, all of Tifton and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Cox, Sr., 2 brothers and 1 sister.
