Obituary

NATICK: Wilbur T. “Sandy” Sanford, 100, died peacefully on August 20, 2010 following a period of declining health.
HE was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 10, 1910 the son of the late Irvin W. Sanford and Mabel (Thomas) Sanford.
Sandy is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 75 years, Mary R. (Barker) Sanford of Natick. He is survived by his nephews Robert L. Melsheimer of Orange, CA; Richard N. Platt of Milford, CT and Thomas S. Platt of Hamden, CT. He was the cousin of Rebecca Schoek of Wallingford, CT. Sandy was the brother of the late Frances Melsheimer and Emily Platt.
Sandy has been a resident of Natick for over 60 years and previously resided in Watertown. He spent his youth in Milford, CT. Sandy served his country proudly during World War II with the United States Army. He attended Northeastern University in Boston and the Lowell Institute. He had a long and distinguished career as a Methods Engineer with Western Electric and retired after 46 years of service in December of 1973. He celebrated his 100th birthday on July 10, 2010 and appeared in an article in the Wayland Town Crier reflecting his life of 100 years. HE has been a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate and served on several committees and as the Treasurer of the church. Sandy was a member of the Meridian Lodge AF & AM and the American Legion of Natick. He loved his Puli dogs and was active in the Puli Club of America, the American Kennel Club and the Pilgrim Puli Club. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his beloved wife and family.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, September, 12, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Community United Methodist Church, 5 Damon St, Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will be at the Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, Maine at a later date for his family.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial gifts in Sandy’s memory be sent to the Community United Methodist Church, the Pilgrim Puli Club, 11 Waltham Rd, Wayland, MA 01778 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
