Belmont-----Martin M. Murray, 84, of 6 Lamprey Road, died at his home on Saturday, September 4, 2010.
Mr. Murray was born March 20, 1926 in Laconia, N.H., the son of William J. and Delia (Woods) Murray. He served in the U.S Marine Corps during WWII, Vietnam and the Korean Wars (including the battle at Chosin Reservoir) and was awarded two Purple Hearts.
Mr. Murray lived in North Carolina for several years before moving back to Belmont in 1964. He had been employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Special Investigator for many years until his retirement. He served on the Laconia Police Department and then became the first salaried Deputy Sheriff for Belknap County under then High Sheriff Rodney Crockett.
Mr. Murray was a charter member of the Marine Corps League, Seacoast Chapter.
Mr. Murray and his wife had the first military wedding held at St. Joseph Church in Laconia on June 30, 1951.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary (Tuttle) Murray, of Belmont; two sons, Mark M. Murray, of Ohio and Morgan M. Murray of Newburyport, Mass.; a daughter, Jane A. Murray, of Belmont, N.H.; one grandchild, Jake Jesseman; thirteen nephews and seven nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was predeceased by a son, Michael M. Murray, in 1970, by three brothers, William J. Murray Jr., John D. Murray and David J. Murray and by a sister, Shirley Scott.

A Graveside Service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Rte 3, Boscawen, NH on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00AM.
