Jessie Glenwood Pruitt, age 77, of 330 Steel Soring Place, Brosville Community, died Friday, September 3, 2010 in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for the past three years.
Born July 15, 1933 in Rockingham County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert Pitman Pruitt and Annie Rachael Rhea. He lived in the Axton community for a number of years before moving to Brosville and was employed by Hooker Furniture Company until his retirement at age 62. Mr. Pruitt was of the Holiness faith.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lula Belle Moran Pruitt and later by his second wife, Lessie Myers Owen Pruitt. He was also predeceased by four sisters and by one step son, Melvin Owen..
Survivors include one daughter: Lisa Gail Edwards of Danville; three step-daughters: Minnie Bates and Carolyn East, both of Danville, and Linda Hopkins of Eden, NC.; three sons: Raymond Pruitt of Martinsville, Robert Mark Pruitt of Reidsville and Roger Dale Pruitt of Danville; three step-sons: Charlie Owen of Danville, Larry Owen of California, Walter Owen of Fries, VA; one brother: Bobby Pruitt of Martinsville; two grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services officiated by Rev. C. A. Brown will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 2 p.m. in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence of his son Raymond, 1701 Lawrence Drive, Martinsville, VA.
